Hello! So, with that out of the way, let’s get started. This is the first entry to this blog and if you ended up here somehow you might wonder a) what you’re doing here and b) who you’re dealing with. Let me explain.
If you’re into illustration, design, inspiration and altogether pretty things combined with good food, travels and a bit of love for Italy, I can say you came to the right place. I intend to fill this blog with my own illustration projects – including behind the scenes / work in progress type of content, but also inspiration from illustrators and designers I admire.
But that’s not it, that’s only the pencils part. This is where the pasta comes in. I love food. Good food. Who doesn’t? Luckily I enjoy the process of making that food as much as I love eating it (and drawing it as you’ll see, but then we’re back to pencils..). You’ll find a food related topic here every now and then.
Pasta, Italian food, Italy! I want to be there, live there, breathe in the Mediterranean air.
The pasta wasn’t only chosen because of the alliteration with pencils. Italy made me do it. And that’s really the big idea behind this blog. I haven’t actually told you much about me yet. My name is Annemarie and I am an independent illustrator and graphic designer. That means I do commissions for magazines and newspaper when I am so lucky they ask me to. I do all sorts of creative stuff you’ll find out about if you decide to stick around.
Anyway: Pasta, Italian food, Italy! I want to be there, live there, breathe in the Mediterranean air, be close to the ocean. Taking it easy, living la bella vita. Waking up to blue skies, opening the doors to our vegetable garden. Collecting a couple of eggs, making a strong espresso, having breakfast. Work for a bit, go for a walk or maybe even a swim. Work a little more, do some grocery shopping (in fluent Italian by then…), cook a delicious meal with a good glass of red wine. Sit outside with a book and watch the sun go down. Repeat. Something like that. That’s what I want.
It’s going to happen. Most important step is to have a steady financial income that is location independent.
For now I am in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, living with my boyfriend M, who feels the same way about Italy. Don’t get me wrong, we like it here and there’s no rush. But we have a plan. It’s going to happen. Most important step is to have a steady financial income that is location independent. That’s the big thing I am working at right now: besides hoping to win the lottery, I am finding streams of income from different places that will allow me to work from anywhere in the world (read: Italy). I’ll get into that in another post.
So that’s this blog, me and our plans in a nutshell. I hope you’ll want to come with me on this journey and follow me all the way to Italy, uphill and down…
