This is the start of a series. Every now and then I will show you how one of my illustrations came to be, from sketch to final piece.
Here’s the process behind this illustration I did for myself a while back. I started out with a rough idea: how modern technology is taking up more and more of your time and demanding your attention even if you don’t want it to. The rough sketch disappeared in a drawer with all the other random ideas. A while later, with a bit more time on my hands, I came back to this sketch and adjusted it, mainly the angles and the person being harassed by his phone.
You see both sketches below. The very first sketch was even rougher, but I cannot find it anymore… This is the second and the third.
This was good enough for me to bring into Photoshop and start playing around with the shapes. I did not think too much about the color palette at this stage.
I felt the tie was competing with the chord, so I decided that needed to go. Also, in the initial idea I never really meant the effect modern technology has on business people. I meant everyone. That’s another reason I figured I’d loose the tie. At this stage I needed to decide on a color palette and add lots of detail.
I hope you enjoyed seeing the process behind an illustration of mine, from sketch to final piece. On to the next one!
